Rochester Red Wings News Release
In their first contest since the All-Star break, the Rochester Red Wings dropped the first game of a mini-series against Buffalo, 3-0.
LHP Josh Rogers made his second rehab start with the Wings this season, giving up six hits and three runs through five innings. Rogers' last appearance came on June 30 when he allowed seven runs in 3.2 innings against Worcester.
The Bisons scored all three of their runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run homer from Spencer Horwitz and an RBI single from Stevie Berman.
Rochester logged four hits in the loss, two of them coming in the fourth inning on singles from 1B Joey Meneses and LF Josh Palacios. DH *Donovan Casey *and CF *Andrew Stevenson *each logged singles in the eighth, but the Wings were unable to capitalize. Palacios now owns a 25-game on base streak, good for the longest in the International League, and a 12-game hit streak.
LHP Francisco Perez and LHP Alberto Baldonado saw the mound for an inning each, both holding Buffalo scoreless. RHP Mason Thompson relieved Baldonado in the eighth and did the same.
The 3-0 defeat marks the sixth time this season that Rochester has been shutout, with the last coming on July 2 against Worcester. The loss is also Rochester's third straight, with the Wings' last three game skid coming from June 30-July 2 against Worcester.
The loss drops Rochester's record to 47-44 as they fall into fifth place in the IL-East.
The Wings will send RHP Sterling Sharp to the mound on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. with a chance to tie up the mini-series.
