
Knights Open Second Half with 9-0 Loss to 'Shrimp

(JACKSONVILLE, FL) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of a three-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by a score of 9-0 on Friday night from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. Friday's game was the first of the second half after a four-day break from Monday to Thursday.
Charlotte LHP John Parke (2-10, 7.09) was saddled with the loss after he allowed five runs on six hits over three innings. RHP Kade McClure was a bright spot out of the Charlotte bullpen. He allowed just one hit over two shutout innings pitched.
Offensively for the Knights, the team tallied a total of three hits in the opener on Friday. Center fielder Mark Payton had one of the three hits to extend his hitting streak to seven consecutive games. Payton is the team leader in batting average with a .282 mark and hits with 83.
Miami Marlins LHP Jesús Lazardo started for the Jumbo Shrimp on a major league rehab assignment and did not allow a run over four shutout innings. LHP Will Stewart (4-3, 5.74) earned the win in relief. He struck-out three batters over three shutout innings.
Jumbo Shrimp first baseman Lewin Díaz blasted his 19th home run of the 2022 season. Designated hitter Lorenzo Quintana led the way with a four-RBI day for the Jumbo Shrimp. In all, the 'Shrimp had 12 hits on the night.
Friday's game lasted just two hours and 14 minutes.
The Knights will continue the three-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from Jacksonville, FL on Saturday night.
