Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - The Durham Bulls (49-42) picked up a 6-3 win against the Norfolk Tides (44-47) in their series opener Friday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit.
The Tides struck first in the opening frame as 2B Jordan Westburg connected on an RBI double to get the three-run inning started. RF Yusniel Diaz and DH Robert Neustrom then used RBI singles to round out the inning. In the bottom half of the first, C Rene Pinto ignited an RBI double to trim the Durham deficit to 3-1.
Pinto, who went 3-for-4 on the night, would do more damage in the third, as he tattooed an RBI single. In the following at-bat, 3B Curtis Mead used an RBI groundout to tie the game at 3. In the fourth, CF Vidal Brujan would stay hot at the plate, going 4-for-5 and scoring three times on the night, as he slapped a RBI single to put the Bulls ahead 4-3. Durham would continue their scoring run in the sixth as SS Xavier Edwards added an RBI double to plate Brujan, and Mead drove in his second run of the night on a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
Bulls starting pitcher Kevin Herget improved to 7-1 on the season as he picked up the win after five innings of work, allowing three runs on six hits and ringing up six strikeouts. Durham reliever Javy Guerra notched the save, while Tides pitcher Chris Vallimont picked up the loss.
The Bulls are set to continue their nine-game homestand on Saturday evening against the Tides. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm. RHP Easton McGee is set to start for Durham, with Matt Harvey expected to get the nod for Norfolk.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home games are still available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
