LOUISVILLE, KY- The Louisville Mashers (36-54) dropped their first game back from the All-Star Break by a score of 12-6 to the Nashville Sounds (55-35) on Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville began their abbreviated, three game series with Nashville tonight, immediately following the four day long All-Star Break. Nashville wasted little time getting back into the groove, hanging a crooked number in the top of the first inning to start the series.

After retiring the first two hitters of the ball game, Louisville starter Deck McGuire (LINE) issued a free pass to Sounds' outfielder Abraham Almonte. Nashville first baseman Jon Singleton capitalized on the baserunner and delivered a two-run home run that barely got over the wall and onto the roof of the Humana Cabana in right field.

The Bats got one run back in the second inning when TJ Friedl lined an RBI single into center field. They brought the score back to even in the third, capitalizing on a defensive miscue that turned a potential double play ball into a run-scoring fielder's choice, knotting the score at 2-2.

The game remained a stalemate until Louisville broke through and captured their first lead in the fifth inning. The Bats started the inning with three straight hits, scoring one when Max Schrock tallied his first hit of the game and drove in Cristian Santana from second, who led off the inning with a double.

Another base hit from Ronnie Dawson loaded the bases and set the scene for Chuckie Robinson who delivered his second hit of the game, this time driving in a pair of baserunners and pushing the Louisville lead to 5-2. Alejo Lopez added to the lead in the sixth when he hit his third homer for Louisville this season, a solo shot to left field.

With the score 6-3 in the top of the seventh, Nashville tallied six straight hits to start the inning, including two home runs: a three-run homer from Pablo Reyes and another two-run homer from Jon Singleton, his second of the game, giving the Sounds an 8-6 lead. After a mid-inning trip to the mound from Bats' skipper Pat Kelly, reliever Kyle Dowdy entered the game and ended the Nashville threat.

Louisville threatened to climb back into the game by accruing a few more baserunners in the contest, but was ultimately held scoreless the rest of the way.

Game two of the three game series between the Bats and the Sounds will be tomorrow night (July 23) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Right-handed Reds rehabber Justin Dunn (0-2, 5.93) will get the start for Louisville, while righty Dylan File (4-5, 4.65) will be on the bump for the Sounds.
