Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV- July 2, 2014)- The West Virginia Power fell to the Hickory Crawdads 5-1 on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Crawdads scored all five runs via solo blasts, including a pair of two-home run efforts by Nomar Mazara and Lewis Brinson.
West Virginia got things started with a run in the first on a Reese McGuire RBI single. The Crawdads, however, would take over from that point on.
Hickory answered with back-to-back jacks to lead off the top of the second by Mazara and Brinson. The 'Dads put up another off the bat of Brinson in the fourth and then another back-to-back pair to lead off the sixth by Ryan Cordell and Mazara.
Buddy Borden (3-6) was charged with the loss while Ryne Slack (6-1) earned the victory in three innings of scoreless relief. Five home runs is the most given up by Power pitching in a single game this season.
West Virginia hosts the Hickory Crawdads on Thursday, July 3, at Appalachian Power Park. Dovydas Neverauskas will start against the Crawdads Akeem Bostick. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-BATS or visit www.wvpower.com.
