KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 2, 2014) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted shortstop Cleuluis Rondon to the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash today. In a corresponding move, the Intimidators receive infielder Ryan Leonards from the Advanced Rookie Great Falls Voyagers.
Rondon, who turned 20 in April, leads all South Atlantic League shortstops in games played (77), total chances (406), putouts (142), assists (246), errors (18), and double plays (65). He hit .233 (70-301) with 16 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and nine doubles in 77 games with Kannapolis. The White Sox acquired him at the trade deadline last season along with outfielder Avisail Garcia and right-handed pitchers Francellis Montas and J.B. Wendelken in a 3-team trade with the Tigers and Red Sox that landed Jake Peavy in Boston.
Rondon takes the place of Dash shorststop and former Intimidator Tim Anderson, who was placed on the Disabled List by Winston-Salem.
Leonards, who turns 23 this month, hit .333 (12-36) with two RBI, two triples, and a double in nine games for the Voyagers. The White Sox selected him in the 21st round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he hit .324 with five home runs, 96 RBI, and an on-base percentage of .402 over four seasons and 206 career games. Leonards graduated from Notre Dame High School in Crowley, La.
