Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, Ga.- On Two-for Tuesday, both the Savannah Sand Gnats and Charleston RiverDogs provided extra, scoring three runs in a wild ninth inning from which the Gnats emerged victorious 9-8 to win their fifth straight.

Victor Cruzado capped the unusual frame by drawing a four-pitch bases-loaded walk to force home the winning run. Earlier in the inning, down two runs, the Gnats (9-4/53-26) evened the game at 8-8 on a play when the Charleston RiverDogs (3-10/36-47) committed a pair of throwing errors that allowed speedsters Patrick Biondi and Champ Stuart to score.

The Gnats took a 6-5 lead into the ninth, when they handed the ball to Akeel Morris, who had allowed one run in his first 36.2 innings. Morris allowed a three-run homer to Charleston second baseman Gosuke Katoh, which gave the Dogs a 8-6 lead.

Cruzado blasted a long homerun in the second inning, his fifth of the year, and finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.

Savannah first baseman Dominic Smith was 4-for-4 with a walk Tuesday to lift his batting average to .291.

The Gnats and Dogs play game two of their three-game series Wednesday when RHP John Michael

Gant (7-4, 2.57) takes on RHP Brady Lail (7-4, 3.75).

If the Sand Gnats fail to win Wednesday, tickets to the game can be exchanged for the Gnats game on Sunday, July 13, as a part of Guaranteed Win Wednesday.

The radio pregame show on News/Talk 630 WBMQ, sandgnats.com and TuneIn Radio begins at 6:45 pm .
