Asheville Tourists News Release

Greenville, SC--The Asheville Tourists continued their perfect road record in the second half of the season with a 5-2 series opening win against the Greenville Drive at Flour Field. Alex Balog won his third straight start thanks to a five-run Tourists sixth inning.

The Drive struck first. In the bottom of the third, Greenville loaded the bases on three straight singles to begin the inning. Alex Balog limited the damage to just one run by inducing a pair of fly-outs, one a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carlos Asuaje, and a groundout to end the inning. The Drive plated another in the fourth. After Manuel Margot and Jake Romanski hit back-to- back singles, Zach Kapstein scored Margot by grounding into a double-play.

Asheville's first hit of the game came in the top of the second inning when Correlle Prime laced a ground-rule double to right. The Tourists did not put another runner aboard until Zach Osborne singled to lead off the sixth. Greenville's starter Trey Ball went five innings and allowed just Prime's double as the left-hander retired the final 11 batters he faced.

Osborne's single off reliever Jonathan Aro did start a major Tourists rally. Emerson Jimenez grounded into a fielder's choice then attempted to steal second. The throw from Jake Romanski had Jimenez beat, but Tzu-Wei Lin dropped the ball. After David Dahl walked and Wilfredo Rodriguez reached on another Lin error, Raimel Tapia put Asheville in front with a bases clearing double.

The next batter Ryan McMahon provided some immediate insurance. The Tourists third- baseman crushed an Aro offering over the right field wall for his 12th Home Run of the season.

Just like that the Tourists led 5-2 and hung on to win by the same score.

Trent Daniel tossed 2.2 hitless innings while celebrating his 24th birthday and Matt Carasiti notched his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth. The Tourists were outhit 11 to 4 in the game; however, ten of Greenville's hits were singles, five of which never left the infield.
