Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Tuesday night's game at Fluor Field was proof that one bad inning can spoil an otherwise good night. The Asheville Tourists (9-4, 50-32) scored all of their runs in the fifth inning to come away with a 5-2 victory over the Greenville Drive (3-10, 37-46).
A 2-0 lead for the Drive evaporated quickly thanks to a pair of errors and a pair of big hits for Asheville. With a runner on first and one out, Tzu-Wei Lin dropped a throw at second base to erase a potential caught stealing, and following a walk and another error, Raimel Tapia lined a three-run double to right-center against Jonathan Aro (1-1) to put Asheville up 3-2. Ryan McMahon followed by launching a two-run homer to right to extend the lead.
Despite receiving a no-decision, Drive starter Trey Ball delivered his best outing of the season. He allowed only one baserunner, a second-inning double, in five shutout innings with three strikeouts.
The Drive took a 1-0 lead in the third against Alex Balog (6-3). Three consecutive singles by Aneudis Peralta, Forrestt Allday and Tzu-Wei Lin loaded the bases, and a Carlos Asuaje sacrifice fly brought Peralta home.
Manuel Margot led off the fourth with an infield single, moved to third on a Jake Romanski single and scored on a double play grounder to push the Drive's lead to 2-0, which ended up short-lived.
Matt Carasiti received his second save of the season after hurling a scoreless ninth. McMahon had two hits for Asheville, while Greenville was led offensively by Allday, who went 3-5, and Lin, who went 2-5.
The Drive will send RH Myles Smith (3-5, 5.84) to the mound on Wednesday night as they look to snap an eight-game losing skid. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The Tourists will counter with RH Konner Wade (6-7, 4.25).
