Storm Chasers' Comeback Falls Short in Rainy Night in Louisville

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (22-22) let the Louisville Bats (16-28) jump out to an early lead and fell 4-2 after a rain delay pushed the start time back about 40 minutes.

The rain picked up in the bottom of the second, and so did the Louisville Bats. Louisville used a single, an RBI triple and homer to score the game's first runs and open a 3-0 lead over Omaha. Louisville LHP Mike Minor followed up the Bats runs with an immaculate inning against the Storm Chasers.

In the fourth inning, SS Iván Castillo hit a single to start the frame but a strikeout, a fly out, and a ground out ended Omaha's second baserunner's journey quickly with the score at 4-0 in favor of Louisville.

CF JaCoby Jones launched his third home run of the season to put Omaha on the board with two away in the fifth. One run was all that Omaha would be able to produce in the fifth, as Louisville led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the inning.

In his longest start of the season, LHP Kris Bubic went 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts, retiring 12 consecutive batters after giving up four earned runs in the first three innings.

Newly promoted RF Nate Eaton reached base with a nine-pitch walk before moving to third base with a single from 3B Jimmy Govern with one out in the seventh. 2B Clay Dungan hit a sacrifice fly to score Eaton and cut the deficit to two.

Omaha was not able to put up any more runs, falling 4-2. RHP Marcelo Martinez threw 3.0 one-hit innings with four strikeouts and no walks to finish the game on the mound for the Storm Chasers.

The Storm Chasers face off against the Louisville Bats Saturday in a doubleheader with first pitch for the opening game set for 4:05 p.m. CT with the second game starting about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Coverage begins at 3:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. After the series with Louisville, Omaha will return to Werner Park for a series with Indianapolis.
