Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls (24-22) were able to stretch their home winning streak to eight games with a 7-1 victory over the Charlotte Knights (16-30), winning their fifth consecutive game overall and 12 of the last 14 games.
The Bulls got things started in the first inning as LF Luke Raley used an RBI single to strike first in the contest. 2B Jonathan Aranda would go yard on a solo shot in the bottom of the third to give Durham a 2-0 lead, and SS Tristan Gray would follow suit in the fourth with a solo shot of his own.
The Bulls were able to hold Charlotte scoreless through four innings, but the Knights would get on the board off a wild pitch. Durham would respond in the fifth as DH Joe Hudson would take advantage of his turn to hit a solo homer to stretch the lead to 4-1. Aranda would do more damage in the fifth also, as used a sacrifice fly to stretch the Bulls lead to four, and Raley rounded out the inning with a sacrifice fly of his own.
In the eighth inning, Raley would add his third RBI of the night as he went yard on a solo shot to give Durham four solo homers for the second consecutive game. Bulls pitchers put together another outstanding outing as the staff of Easton McGee, Cristofer Ogando, Zack Erwin, Javy Guerra, Ben Bowden, and Shawn Armstrong combined to allow one run on four hits and rang up 11 strikeouts. Erwin picked up the win for the Bulls, throwing one inning and allowing one hit. Knights starting pitcher John Parke picked up the loss.
The Bulls return to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday for game four of the six-game set against Charlotte. RHP Tommy Romero (2-2, 3.34) is scheduled to start for Durham and RHP Davis Martin (2-1, 4.80) is expected to start for Charlotte. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
