North Charleston, SC The South Carolina Stingrays released their upcoming season schedule today. The 2005-06 season marks the 13th year of professional hockey in the Lowcountry. The Stingrays play a 72 game schedule, which begins on October 21 in Augusta. The team's home opener will be the following night, October 22, against the Columbia Inferno.

"Columbia is a great team to kick off the home slate against," commented Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "They have quickly become one of our fiercest rivals; we are already looking forward to getting underway."

The Stingrays have increased the number of weekend dates to 26 this season, up from 22 a year ago. This year's slate will feature four Sunday afternoon "Kid's Day" games, that will begin at 3:00 PM and feature children's characters, jump castles, entertainment and more.

"We had great success with our Kid's Day Sundays last season," commented team President Taylor Lee. "This year we have added two more Sundays. We plan to focus a lot of our energy into making those dates perfect for our young fans and their families."

The Rays welcome the Florida Everblades to the Coliseum three times this season beginning on Tuesday, November 29th. The Everblades have eliminated the Stingrays from the Kelly Cup Playoffs in three out of the last four years. Florida also visits on March 7th and 24th.

South Carolina will be at home once again for New Years Eve, when they host the Charlotte Checkers at 6:00.

"New Years Eve is always one of our biggest nights," noted Lee. "We worked hard with the North Charleston Coliseum to get that night back on our schedule. The special early start time will let our fans enjoy the game and then get home in time to ring in the New Year!"

The ECHL will have 27 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 972 games in 2005-06.

The division and conference alignments and the format for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced following the Annual Board of Governors Meeting on June 21-22.

The puck drops on all Stingrays home games, except Sunday and New Year's Eve, at 7:05.

The Stingrays have been busy in the off season selling a variety of season ticket packages starting under $60. Group tickets are also available by contacting the Stingrays office at 744-2248, or by logging on to www.stingrayshockey.com.

"Group tickets are a nice way for our fans to be able to pre purchase opening night tickets," added Lee. "We do not expect many seats to be available for our opener by game day!"
