Lynx, ECHL release 2005-06 schedule
June 20, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
A visit from the defending Kelly Cup Champion Trenton Titans, a trip to the ECHL's northwestern limits, plus a bevy of games against regional rivalries all highlight the 2005-06 schedule for the Augusta Lynx.
Augusta will open the year with a pair of games at home on Friday, October 21st against the South Carolina Stingrays and Saturday, October 22nd versus the Gwinnett Gladiators. The Lynx will play the Stingrays and Gladiators ten times this season, the highest head-to-head count of any teams on the schedule this year.
New Lynx bench boss Bob Ferguson will face off against his former club, the Florida Everblades, seven times this year. Guiding the Everblades to then-ECHL records in wins and point over his three-year tenure while becoming the only coach in league history to win back-to-back Coach of the Year awards, Ferguson will first shepherd the Lynx against the Everblades on Friday, November 4th and Saturday the 5th in Florida. The Everblades won't see the ice at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center until Thursday, December 15th.
Other home schedule highlights include a visit from the Kelly Cup Champion Titans on Saturday, February 11th; a rare sighting of the Wheeling Nailers in Augusta on Wednesday, December 7th; Mississippi's lone voyage to Augusta on Thursday, January 19th; and the first of five home games against Border Cup rivals the Columbia Inferno on Saturday, November 12th.
The road portion of Augusta' schedule will feature an epic journey to both Anchorage, Alaska for a pair of games against the Aces and Victoria, BC for a three-game set with the Salmon Kings. The Lynx will play January 28th and 29th in Alaska and February 1st, 3rd, and 4th in Victoria.
Augusta takes to the road for five straight games after opening weekend, heading to South Carolina (10/28), Greenville (10/29), South Carolina (11/1), and then Florida (11/4, 5). The Lynx will also end the season with four games on the road, starting April 1st in South Carolina, followed by games in Gwinnett (4/4), Greenville (4/7), and then Gwinnett (4/8) to round out the regular season.
As for holiday games, the Lynx will play at home on Veteran's Day (11/11), Valentine's Day (2/14), and St. Patrick's Day (3/17). The Lynx will play on the road on New Year's Eve at Pensacola.
Welcoming the Phoenix Roadrunners, the Stockton Thunder and the Utah Grizzlies, the ECHL will have 27 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 972 games.
The division and conference alignments and the format for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced following the Annual Board of Governors Meeting on June 21-22.
The Premier "AA" Hockey League, the ECHL had affiliations with 23 of the 28 teams in the American Hockey League in 2004-05 and for the 16th consecutive season the Calder Cup Champion had former ECHL players on it. The ECHL had affiliations with 23 of the 30 teams in the National Hockey League and there were more than 100 players who played in the ECHL in 2004-05 who were under contract to NHL team.
