June 20, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The ECHL has finalized the Victoria Salmon Kings 2005-06 schedule. The Salmon Kings season once again starts on the road but Victoria hockey fans will not have to wait till December to see their team skating on the ice of the brand new, 7,000 seat, Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Salmon Kings home opener falls on Thursday November 10, 2005 when they will host the Stockton Thunder, the relocated Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Stockton is one of three new teams the Salmon Kings will welcome to the West Division this coming season along with the expansion Phoenix Roadrunners and the Utah Grizzlies who have joined the ECHL from the American Hockey League.

Vancouver Island hockey fans will get their first look at the Utah Grizzlies when they make their first visit in early December. Phoenix will take their first ride on the BC Ferries in the New Year. The addition of the three new franchises in the West brings the total to eleven teams.

The Salmon Kings start the season with the first eight games on the road visiting Fresno, Bakersfield and Utah in their first four before trekking to the East Coast to face the 2005 ECHL Kelly Cup Champion Trenton Titans, as well as the Dayton Bombers, Toledo Storm and the Wheeling Nailers.

The Salmon Kings are scheduled to play thirteen games on Friday and thirteen on Saturday as opposed to seven and eight respectively in the 2004-05 season. Victoria only has one game slated for Monday nights, none for Tuesday and two Sunday afternoon games. All games are scheduled for 7:00 pm PST start times with the exception of the Sunday games, which will face-off at 1:00 pm PST.

The Salmon Kings will spend much of the first half of the season on the road (14 homes games, 22 road games), which will have the team making the most of their new ice surface at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre during the months of February and March.

Victoria has an eight game home stand at the beginning of February followed by an eleven game stretch in March. The Salmon Kings and the Fresno Falcons will renew their rivalry on the Island for a three game set on January 5, 6 and 7, 2006.

Due to the expansion of the West Division the Salmon Kings will host teams the Victoria hockey fans are familiar with, such as San Diego, Las Vegas, Long Beach, Idaho and Bakersfield only once.

Victoria will welcome the East Division Augusta Lynx for a three game set on February 1, 3 and 4, 2006. Augusta is the only team from the American Conference to make the journey to the Island during the 2005-06 season.

Victoria Salmon Kings final home game of the season and Fan Appreciation Day will be against the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday March 8, 2006.

The ECHL will announce the division and conference alignments and the format for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs following the Annual Board of Governors Meeting on June 21-22, 2005.
