Wranglers reveal 2005-06 schedule

Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today its home opener will be Tuesday, October 25th against the expansion Utah Grizzlies at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena. Las Vegas will open their third season on the road on Friday, October 21st against Utah. The 72-game season will conclude at home with the expansion Phoenix Roadrunners on Saturday, April 8th.

The Wranglers get their first look at three new teams out West this year including the Utah Grizzlies, Stockton Thunder, and Phoenix Roadrunners. After opening with Utah, Las Vegas will host Stockton on Friday, November 25th. The Wranglers and Roadrunners will meet for the first time in Phoenix on December 1st. Utah and Las Vegas will renew their hockey rivalry which dates back to the days of the IHL's Las Vegas Thunder. The Grizzlies jumped to the ECHL this season after four seasons in the American Hockey League. The teams' will meet eight times during the regular season. Utah will play their home games at the E Center.

The Phoenix Roadrunners joined the ECHL in February, reviving the old IHL team name. The previous Roadrunners spent eight seasons in the IHL, four as a rival of the Las Vegas Thunder. Former NHLer Claude Lemieux is spearheading the organization as the President of the team and Ron Filion will lead the team on the ice as the Head Coach. The Roadrunners visit Las Vegas three times this season and host the Wranglers four times at the America West Arena. The Stockton Thunder will join the mix out west with newly appointed Head Coach Chris Cichocki. The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies relocated to Stockton this summer to play at the brand new Stockton Arena. Las Vegas will host the Thunder for three games and visit them for three more.

With the three new additions, the ECHL now has 11 teams in the west. The division and conference alignments and the format for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be announced following the Annual Board of Governors Meeting on June 21-22 in Las Vegas, NV.

The Wranglers also announced the third annual "Midnight Holiday Roundup" returns on Monday, December 19th against the Long Beach Ice Dogs with a unique 11:59 pm start time. The Wranglers became the first professional hockey team to play a home game at midnight on December 22nd, 2003, beating the Bakersfield Condors 3-2 in sudden death overtime.

For the first time in the team's three-year history, the Wranglers will visit Toledo (OH) and Wheeling (WV) in the only road trip east of the Mississippi River. The first week of December Las Vegas will play two games in Toledo and one in Wheeling before concluding their four-game trip in Reading (PA) on December 13th. The Wranglers will log 6,186 miles on the seven-day trip. Las Vegas will log 22,073 miles on the road this season.

Out of 36 home games, 30 will be played against western opponents. The Wranglers will host the 2005 Northern Division Champion Reading Royals on Tuesday, January 3rd. On Tuesday, November 29th and Tuesday December 6th, the Wranglers will host the Johnstown Chiefs. Johnstown enters its 18th season of play in the ECHL. Johnstown is the only team in the league to have participated each year of the ECHL's existence. The meeting will be the first ever between the two clubs. Las Vegas will also host the Texas Wildcatters for three games in February on the 7th, 10th, and 14th.
