Stingrays Pick Up Barrie Form Bakersfield

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that the Stingrays have acquired forward Mike Barrie from the Bakersfield Condors for future considerations. Barrie will be in uniform for the Stingrays on Tuesday night when the team returns to the North Charleston Coliseum to host the Augusta Lynx. Terms of the future considerations will not be released at this time.

Barrie, a draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 1993, played two seasons with the Stingrays from 1994-96. A native of Kelowna, BC, Barrie has 18 points on 12 goals and six assists in 26 games this season in Bakersfield. The 6'1" -200lb veteran center had 41 goals in 69 games with the Birmingham Bulls of the ECHL in 1997-98.

"If you have an opportunity to improve your team you have to take it," explained Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Mike is a player that can come in a help us offensively as we head toward the playoffs."

Barrie spent last season in the WCHL with Fresno and Long beach, scoring 17 goals in 33 games.

The Stingrays went 5-1 on a six game West Coast Swing. The team has two home games this week. South Carolina will host the Augusta Lynx on Tuesday night and welcome the Louisiana Ice Gators on Saturday night. The Kelly Cup will be on display on Tuesday night at the Coliseum.
