Checkers trade Marc St. Jean to Augusta, David St. Germain to return
March 8, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
(Charlotte, NC - Monday, March 8) The Checkers announce today that they have traded defenseman Marc St. Jean to the Augusta Lynx to complete a trade that brought goalie Gregg Naumenko to Charlotte last week. In addition, the Hartford Wolf Pack will assign goalie David St. Germain to Charlotte Tuesday while the Checkers will release emergency backup goalie Kevin Kreutzer. The moves are announced today by Checkers Head Coach and General Manager Derek Wilkinson.
"We did not want to trade Marc but as the famous saying goes, sometimes you have to give up something to get something," remarked Wilkinson. "Marc played well for us this season and we wish him well in Augusta."
St. Jean was a rookie for the Checkers this season out of Wayne State, playing in 57 games with six goals and 16 assists for 22 points and 83 penalty minutes. St. Germain returns to Charlotte after spending the past 11 days with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, where he played in one game for four minutes during his recall. Kreutzer, a former Checkers goalie from the 1998-99 season, did not play while backing up Gregg Naumenko in three games this past week.
The Checkers are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southern Division with the Greensboro Generals with 67 points. Charlotte trails third place South Carolina by four points and second place Florida by five points. Charlotte opens up a three-game homestand at Cricket Arena this week beginning Wednesday when it will host the Louisiana IceGators at 7:00 p.m.
