Cyclones Head to Alaska to Battle Aces

The Cyclones head to Alaska this week after going 1-1-0 over the weekend. Cincinnati faced off with the Trenton Titans in a two-game set at U.S. Bank Arena. After dropping a 3-1 decision to Trenton on Friday, the Clones bounced back to record a 3-2 shootout victory on Saturday. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Cyclones. This week, the team heads to Alaska for their longest road trip of the season. The Clones play the Alaska Aces on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in Anchorage.

Friday, March 5 Trenton 3 at Cincinnati 1

The sixth consecutive loss for the Cyclones came after a hard fought effort on Friday vs. Trenton. The Cyclones fell behind 1-0 on Robert Liscak's first period goal. The Titans would extend their lead to 2-0 on a Matt Zultek marker in the second period. In the third, Mike Henderson scored the first goal of second tour with the Clones. Henderson's goal came at the 6:14 mark of the first and broke a Cyclones shutout string that reached over 180 minutes. With Trenton leading 2-1, Phil Lewandowski was assessed a double minor for high sticking. With Lewandowski in the box, Mathieu Brunelle scored a power-play marker to set the final score at 3-1. The goal was Brunelle's third marker in three games against the Cyclones.

Saturday, March 6 Trenton 2 at Cincinnati 3 Shootout

The Cyclones broke a six-game losing skid with a thrilling 3-2 shootout win over Trenton. The Cyclones never trailed in the game as Mike Henderson staked the Cyclones to a 1-0 lead 1:12 into the game. Mathieu Brunelle would burn the Clones again when he scored in the first to even the game at one. Josh Harrold reclaimed the lead for the Clones with his eighth marker of the year at the 12:07 mark of the second. Trenton's Jeff Smith scored a power-play goal with 4:23 left in the second to finish the regulation scoring. After a scoreless third period and overtime, the teams went into a shootout. Cyclones netminder Randy Petruk, after making 40 saves in regulation, was spectacular in the shootout. Petruk stopped all three Trenton shooters while Evan Cheverie, Ryan Brindley and Mike Henderson scored for the Cyclones.

This Week

Wednesday, March 10, Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13 Cincinnati at Alaska

The Cyclones fly to Anchorage this week for a showdown with the Pacific Division's Alaska Aces. The three-game set will be the longest road trip of the season for Cincinnati. The Clones will travel 3,957 miles on Tuesday before a Wednesday showdown with the Aces. The Aces will be well rested when the Clones arrive. Their last game before Wednesday's showdown with Cincinnati was on March 3rd vs. Bakersfield in Anchorage. The Aces are 31-23-4 on the season. They hold a 17-point cushion over Bakersfield for the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division.

Clones to Watch

-Cyclones enforcer Jeff Worlton recorded his first point of the season on Saturday with an assist.

-The Cyclones were officially eliminated from the playoff race following Friday's loss to Trenton.

-The Cyclones are on pace to set the ECHL record for fewest goals scored in a season. The current record is 182 by the Reading Royals in 2001-02. This year's edition of the Clones is on pace to score 166 goals.

-The Cyclones return home on March 19th vs. the Toledo Storm. It's the Storm's last appearance of the season at U.S. Bank Arena. It's also the most special night in the lives of two lucky Cyclones fans. Bill and Kirsten will be wed during the intermission activities. WWE Superstar Batista will also in attendance to drop the opening puck and sign autographs for selected fans.

-March 20th is Faith Night with the Cyclones. Cincinnati quarterback Jon Kitna will speak with fans about his faith.
