Eklund 17 Saves Away From Tying ECHL Record

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots are proud to announce that Ice Pilots goalie Brian Eklund is 17 saves away from tying an ECHL record for most saves in a season. Eklund currently has the second most saves ever in the ECHL in one season with 1,814 saves. The record is 1,831 set by Mark Michaud of Hampton Roads in 1993-1994.

Eklund currently leads the ECHL in saves with 1,814, wins 30, minutes played 3,055:39 and 5 shootout wins. He broke the record for most wins by an Ice Pilots player last Thursday with a 3-2 overtime win vs. Augusta and also has the team record for most saves in a season at 1,814. Eklund begins the week needing 7 shots to tie the team record for most shots in a season faced by an a goalie which is 1,977 set by Sean Gauthier during the 1997-98 season.

The Ice Pilots will play home tomorrow night vs. Mississippi at 7:05 p.m. It is Hot Rod Night sponsored by Award Masters. There will be a Hot Rod Car show in the back of the Civic Center beginning at 4:00 p.m. before the game. The top three cars will parade on the ice during the intermission.
