South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that the team will be inducting former goalie Kirk Daubenspeck into the Stingrays Hall of Fame at tonight's Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night.
Daubenspeck, 32, began his professional career during the 1997-98 season with the Jacksonville Lizard Kings. Selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the seventh round of the 1992 ECHL Entry Draft, he played four years of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin before beginning his eight seasons as a professional hockey player.
The Madison, Wisconsin native first joined the Stingrays during the 1999-2000 season when he played just six games with a 4-2 record and a 2.83 save percentage. Daubenspeck, now 32, returned to the team the following year leading them to his self-proclaimed favorite hockey memory, winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2001. Even the Calder Cup he won with the Hershey Bears last season couldn't top the memory of his first championship trophy.
During the six seasons Daubenspeck spent time with the Stingrays, including his 2-0 two-game stint last year, he set five of the ten goaltender club records. Daubenspeck's record setting year came during the 2002-03 season when he set the record for most appearances (58), most minutes (3,454), most wins (36), most shots faced (1,969) and most saves (1,802).
Daubenspeck has had an illustrious career which includes a Kelly Cup and Calder Cup Championship, various Stingrays records, and eight solids seasons with significant time spent in the American Hockey League. Upon his retirement at the end of last season, Daubenspeck had a record of 141-70-20, a goals-against average of 2.71 and a save percentage of .917.
The South Carolina Stingrays play the Reading Royals for a non-divisional match-up tonight at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. It's Family Fun Friday where four tickets, four sodas, four hotdogs and a program costs just $44!
