Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, will continue their inaugural "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" in conjunction with Phoenix Children's Hospital from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Alltel Ice Den with a special "Skate and Chow with the RoadRunners" party.
The Alltel Ice Den is located at 9375 East Bell Road in North Scottsdale just east of the Loop 101 Freeway.
"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" is a program that pairs RoadRunners' players with 18 children from across Arizona who suffer from pediatric cancer. For the past three months, the players and children have participated in a series of social events with the hopes of creating a lasting relationship and increased awareness about childhood cancer in the community.
The "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will culminate at 7:11 p.m. Saturday, March 17 when the RoadRunners take the ice against the Las Vegas Wranglers at US Airways Center wearing special commemorative jerseys dedicated to those Phoenix Children's patients participating in the program. These jerseys will be auctioned off immediately after the game with the proceeds benefiting the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization which provides hats autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy.
Originated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves Hockey Club of the ECHL in 2003 and later duplicated by the Atlantic City (N.J.) Boardwalk Bullies Hockey Club of the ECHL in 2004 and 2005, "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" has touched hundreds of lives and raised thousands of dollars in the fight against cancer.
The RoadRunners organization would also like to recognize and thank presenting sponsor Kismet Print Productions along with Dad's Catering, Cold Stone Creamery, the Alltel Ice Den, XP Events, and Peter Piper Pizza for their support of the inaugural "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer".
Phoenix Children's Hospital is Arizona's leader in pediatric care and is one of the 10 largest free-standing children's hospitals in the nation. The most comprehensive array of pediatric specialists in the state practice at this one organization. The outstanding clinical expertise, as well as high patient volume, and an unwavering commitment to caring only for children, all contribute to Children's leadership position. Phoenix continues their four-game homestand at 7:11 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 as they welcome the Bakersfield Condors for the opening game of a two-game series. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
