Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (March 9, 2007) - Led by a three-point night by Scott Bertoli (1g, 2a) and a two-goal effort from Troy Riddle, the Trenton Titans downed the Toledo Storm, 4-1, in front of 3,581 at the Sovereign Bank Arena on Friday night.
After a first period that saw no goals for either squad, Riddle opened the scoring at 3:53 when he took the shot himself during a 2-on-1 beating Logan Koopmans to the stick side for his 23rd of the year. The Titans were able to up their lead to two goals later in the period, as the second power-play unit went to work and Les Haggett found Benoit Mondou in the slot for a one-timer that snuck inside the far post at 13:05.
Scott Bertoli got into the act as well with a power play goal 3:32 into third period to make it 3-0 in favor of Trenton. Jim Henkel feathered a perfect pass into the slot to get the Titans' captain behind the Toledo defense, where he went forehand to backhand before tucking the puck past the leg pad of Koopmans.
A turnover at the Titans blueline at 7:15 of the final frame turned into an odd-man situation, which Bruce Mulherin completed to cut Trenton's lead back to two. Riddle, however, put the game out of reach with his second tally of the evening, an empty-netter with 1:32 left in regulation.
Gregg Naumenko wins his second consecutive start and his 17th of the season with a 27-save performance.
The Titans finished 2-for-8 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
The Titans and Storm will take the ice for the rematch on Saturday, March 10 at 12:00pm. Tune in to hear all of the Titans action live on WBCB-1490AM or listen or watch live via B2 Networks at www.trentontitans.com.
