March 9, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Davis Parley made 26 saves to register his third shutout of the season by backstopping the South Carolina Stingrays to a 3-0 victory over the Reading Royals in front of 4,984 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum.
With the win, South Carolina moves into a tie with idle Charlotte for the fifth and final playoff position in the ECHL's South Division.
"I'm so proud of our guys," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "We brought a lot of energy and it was nice to get the two points. Davis is a very focused goalie that competes hard every day. It's just what the doctored ordered."
South Carolina (29-23-7, 65 points) hit stride at 3:25 of the first period. Scott Romfo showed great patience in close and deposited his fifth goal of the season beating netminder Yutaka Fukufuji. Assists went to Josh Anderson and Evan Schwabe.
Jarrett Konkle made it 2-0 for the Stingrays on the power play by converting his sixth tally of the year at 11:23 from Matt Stefanishion and Schwabe.
South Carolina kept bringing offense in the opening stanza, as Stefanishion busted in on a breakaway and notched his 13th goal of the campaign. Helpers went to Schwabe, who collected his third of the game and Anderson, who registered two on the night.
Reading (27-26-6, 60 points) made a valiant effort outshooting South Carolina in the third period by a 10-9 margin, but Parley remained perfect.
South Carolina converted on 1-of-4 power play chances, while Reading went 0-for-7. Stingrays outshot the Royals 32-26.
Additional note: Former Stingrays goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck became the seventh member and first goalie to be inducted into the South Carolina Stingrays Hall of Fame.
