Stingrays Game Preview: Stingrays Wrap up Road Trip Tonight against Gwinnett; Receive Lavin from Pro

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays close a season-long six-game road trip tonight against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia. Tonight is the 14 of 15 meetings between the two teams this season.

Series at a Glance:

The Stingrays boast an 8-5-0-0 record against their South-Division rivals this season and sit 4-2-0-0 in Duluth, Georgia. Forward Peter Boyd leads the Stingrays against the Gladiators with five goals and 10 assists for 15 points. The two sides last collided on Sunday, February 23 in Georgia with the Stingrays taking a 5-2 victory behind Boyd's three-point (one goal, two assists) performance.

Deadline Deals:

The ECHL Trade Deadline slid by yesterday afternoon with both the Stingrays and Gladiators making moves over the past week. Last Friday, the Stingrays picked up goaltender Brad Phillips from the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for future considerations and acquired forward Louke Oakely from the Evansville IceMen Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Zach Currie . The Gladiators shipped forward Evan Bloodoff and top defenseman Rob Kwiet to the Florida Everblades for forward Mike Merrifield, defenseman Eriks Sevcenko and future considerations. Forward Mike Seidel joined the Gladiators from Evansville to complete and earlier trade and defenseman Matt Ridley was plucked from the Orlando Solar Bears for future considerations.

Defenseman Joe Lavin Assigned to Stingrays from Providence Bruins:

Lavin, 24, skated in two games with the Bruins recording one assist. Acquired by the Stingrays' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in a trade with the Springfield Falcons (AHL) earlier this season, the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, native dressed in three games with the Stingrays adding one assist. In 24 games with the Falcons' ECHL affiliate, Evansville, Lavin netted three goals and seven assists for 10 points.

Making Moves:

Yesterday, the Stingrays released defenseman Drew Baker and Phillips. The team also claimed forward Ryan Santana off waivers from the Reading Royals. A rookie this season, the Yorba Linda, California, native grabbed four penalty minutes in 12 games with the Royals.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow, Saturday, March 15 to celebrate Lowcountry Food Bank Night against the Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. Bring non-perishable food items to the game to help stock the Lowcountry Food Bank's shelves during the spring and summer months!
