Stingrays Fall to Gladiators 3-2

Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays (16-3-1-2) fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (7-14-0-2) 3-2 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Friday evening, snapping a six-game winning streak and seven-game point streak and closing a six-game road trip.

Gladiators forward Joey Haddad opened the scoring late in the first period lifting a shot over the right shoulder of Stingrays goaltender David LeNeveu (L, 26 saves on 29 shots) from the left-wing circle at 16:21. LeNeveu's shutout streak lasted 136:21.

Early in the second period, Gladiators goaltender Peter Delmas (13 saves on 13 shots) left the contest with a lower-body injury and replaced by Matt Cooper (W, 16 saves 18 shots). Forward Maxime Legault gave the Gladiators a two-goal lead on the power play at 4:20 of the second period. Moments later, forward Marshall Everson made it 3-0 at 9:09. Less than a minute later, defenseman Zach Currie put the Stingrays on the scoreboard with his first professional goal at 9:41 from forward Marc Hagel.

Stingrays forward Wayne Simpson pulled the game within one late in the third period with LeNeveu pulled for the extra skater slipping a shot between the legs of Cooper at 18:51. Forwards Parker Stanfield and Kyle Bodie earned assists. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play while the Gladiators went 1-for-3.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow, Saturday, December 14 to take on the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids.

The Stingrays will wear special Clemson University jerseys and auction them LIVE after the contest. Charleston native and "Survivor: One World" finalist Chelsea Meissner will drop the ceremonial first puck.
