Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Greenville, SC - Forward Scott Tanski scored two goals and F David Rutherford picked up the game winner as Orlando erased a two goal first period deficit to take a 5-4 victory over the Greenville Road Warriors at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Friday night.
The Road Warriors struck first in the contest, when F Jordie Johnston slipped a pass through to F Marc-Olivier Vallerand who made a quick move to his forehand and slipped a shot past G John Curry 4:19 into the first. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Greenville until a late period power play saw F Michael St. Croix slam a rebound home with 37 seconds left in the opening frame as Greenville took a 2-0 lead into the second.
Forward Jacob Cepis cut the lead in half 2:40 into the second frame. F Andrew Johnston moved a puck to F Mike Ullrich who found Cepis open for a one-timer in the low slot, and Cepis buried his opportunity to bring Orlando within one of Greenville. Just 1:01 later, Johnston earned a penalty shot when he was hooked on a breakaway, and he made the most of his chance when he knocked home a backhand to forehand move to tie the game at 2-2. The tie game lasted 27 seconds before St. Croix scored his second of the contest on a one-timer from the right side as Greenville regained the lead. Orlando came storming right back, as F Scott Twice scored twice in quick succession. The first came on a deflection in front of the net at 5:47 and the second on another deflection, this time in the high slot, at 8:40 as the Solar Bears grabbed a 4-3 lead heading into the third frame.
5:25 into the final period, Greenville knotted the game at 4-4. St. Croix snapped a shot off the left wall and Johnston deflected the puck past Curry to tie the game. F David Rutherford played the hero for the Solar Bears as he gathered a rebound off a shot from F Zach Harrison and flipped a shot over the pads of G Scott Stajcer to propel Orlando to a 5-4 win over the Road Warriors.
