Aces Assigned Connolly, MacKenzie from Abbotsford

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, announced today that center Brendan Connolly and defenseman Drew MacKenzie have been assigned to the Aces from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League.

The two players are expected to be available for the Aces in their next game tonight, at 5:10 p.m. (103.7 FM/750 AM KFQD) against the Idaho Steelheads at CenturyLink Arena.

Connolly returns tied for second in Aces scoring with 17 points in 18 games and leading the Aces with six power play points. He earned an assist and +1 rating in two games with the Heat.

The 5-foot-9, 161 pound pivot has 222 points (95g-127a) in 234 career ECHL games with Elmira, Greenville and the Aces.

MacKenzie, who turns 25 on Dec. 17, has collected five points in 16 AHL games along with a +2 rating with the Abbotsford Heat this season. He skated in 25 games with the Utah Grizzlies with 14 points and 26 penalty minutes last season and also earned nine points and a +5 rating with Abbotsford.

The 6-foot-2, 205 pound blueliner began the season with the Grizzlies and was +8 for the month of October, earning the ECHL Plus Performer of the Month award.

MacKenzie, a native of New Canaan, Conn., was Most Valuable Player at the University of Vermont (NCAA) as a 2011-12 senior and racked up 64 points in 133 career games through four seasons with the Catamounts.

MacKenzie was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round (209th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
