Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

KALAMAZOO, Michigan - The Cincinnati Cyclones (14-8-0-1) found five different goal scorers while the team's penalty kill unit was a perfect five-for-five en route to a convincing 5-2 win over the Kalamazoo Wings (11-7-0-2) in front of 2,720 at Wings Stadium on Friday night.

The Wings drew first blood at 8:23 when Elgin Reid came up with a loose puck in the left circle and beat Rob Madore (W, 29 saves, 8-3-0) with a high wrist shot to make it a 1-0 game. However, the Cyclones roared back with a goal of their own just two minutes later when Wade Megan tipped home David MacDonald's point shot to tie the game at 10:27. Then, during a 5-on-3 penalty kill, Logan Shaw caught an outlet pass from Megan, raced up ice and sniped in his first-career shorthanded goal at 16:18 to give Cincinnati a 2-1 edge through 20 minutes.

Shaw added to his point totals midway through the second period as he hit Josh Shalla with a beautiful pass from the wall, setting up the second-year pro's first ECHL goal of the season. With a 3-1 lead, the Cyclones penalty kill unit was again tested as the Wings had a pair of man-advantage chances; however, Madore came up with some big saves and kept Kalamazoo off the scoreboard for the remainder of the frame.

Josh Birkholz single-handedly padded Cincinnati's lead early in the third; after fighting through some stick checks he crashed the net and lifted in his third goal of the year over Jordan Binnington (L, 22 saves, 8-5-0) at 5:53. The Wings stopped the bleeding, temporarily, at 11:52 when Ludwig Blomstrand took a sneaky shot that eluded Madore and pulled his team to within a pair. Fortunately, the Cyclones would prevent anything further and with three seconds remaining in the contest, Josh McFadden potted an empty net goal to seal a 5-2 victory.

The Cyclones will return to the ice at U.S. Bank Arena on Tuesday, December 17 when they host the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30pm! In addition to $2 24-ounce beers, it will be Anchorman Night - as we honor the classic comedy and its star, Ron Burgandy. Tickets are on sale now!
