BIG BEER TUESDAY / ANCHORMAN NIGHT
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: With a hard fought 3-2 win over Toledo on Wednesday night, the Cyclones have pulled back into a tie for the top spot in the North Division. Tonight, they'll reset their sights on the Kalamazoo Wings - as they meet for the second time in four days. The teams have split the season series thus far, with the Cyclones holding a 2-2-0 mark in 2013.
SCOUTING THE WINGS: After their win in Cincinnati on Tuesday, Nick Bootland's club has earned points in six straight games and sits three points back of the Clones in the Eastern Conference race. While he had his four-game goal streak snapped at U.S. Bank Arena this week, Yanni Gourde remains the offensive leader for the Wings with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 19 games. Eric Kattelus has been a thorn in Cincinnati's side this season as well, collecting four goals and four assists during the season series and ranks second on the team overall with 20 tallies (7 goals, 13 assists). Goaltender Joel Martin made 34 saves on Tuesday to earn his fifth win of the year; he's now 5-2-0-2 with a 2.39 goals-against average. Jordan Binnington has also seen ample action for K-Zoo, going 6-4-0 with a 2.28 GAA.
About Wednesday Night in Toledo: Adam Brace's second period goal turned out to be the game-winner as the Cyclones knocked off the Walleye by a 3-2 final score in front of 3,635 at Huntington Center. Cincinnati's penalty kill was sensational as well, extinguishing three of the four Toledo Walleye man-advantages including two in the final period. Michael Houser made 30 saves to earn the win.
Nail Biting Experts: Cincy has become quite proficient in playing in close games. 17 of their 22 games have been decided by two goals or less. In one-goal decisions, the Clones are 9-3 - the most wins of any team in this category.
Holiday Season Happiness: Over the years, the Cyclones have found great success during the month of December. Since 2007-08, Cincy has compiled a 51-31-7 record (including this year) in the final month of the calendar year.
Rule of Three: When the Cyclones have held their opponents to three goals or less, they've been nearly impossible to beat. In such situations this year, they've posted a 10-4-0-1 record and have accomplished the feat in seven consecutive games.
