Road Warriors Edged by Orlando 5-4

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors were defeated by the Orlando Solar Bears 5-4 in regulation on Friday night.

The Road Warriors controlled the game early with a dominating first period. Six minutes into the period Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored off a pass from Jordie Johnston to cause 2,376 teddy bears rain onto the ice. Johnston recorded the assist in the goal. This marker beat last year's teddy bear toss record of 2,078. With 36.4 seconds left in the period, Michael St. Croix scored a power play goal off a rebound to end the period with the Road Warriors leading 2-0.

In the second period, the Solar Bears turned the table on the Road Warriors with 22 shots on goal. Two minutes and forty seconds into the period, Orlando scored their first goal of the game when Jacob Cepis scored to bring the game to a 2-1 score in favor Greenville. A minute later, the Solar Bears were awarded a penalty shot and Johnston scored on Scott Stajcer to tie the game at two. St. Croix responded one minute later, scoring off a rebound from Justin Vaive to put the Road Warriors up by a 3-2 score. The goal was St. Croix's second of the game and fourth of the season. With nine minutes left in the period, Scott Tanski redirected a slap shot from Cody Wild to tie the game for the second time. Tanski scored again for Orlando with six minutes left in the period, to give Orlando the first lead of the game by a 4-3 score.

Five and a half minutes into the third period, Johnston tied the game at four after deflecting a shot by St. Croix. With seven minutes remaining, David Rutherford scored on Stajcer for the final goal of the game. With Rutherford's game winning goal, the Solar Bears won 5-4.

The Road Warriors will play the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. in North Charleston. Fans can listen to the game by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors' homepage or by watching via America One.
