Stingrays Double up Gladiators 4-2 Behind Scherer's Two Tallies

Duluth, GA -Captain Matt Scherer scored two goals and forward Justin Milo recorded his first professional marker as the South Carolina Stingrays (8-10-1-0) defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (12-6-0-4) 4-2 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Friday night.

The Gladiators kicked off the scoring on the power play at 12:47 of the first period when Matt Krug buried a wrist shot off the right-wing post for his second goal of the season. Forwards Tim Miller and Michael Forney earned assists. Milo tied the contest at 19:36 with his first professional goal from forward Nikita Kashirsky and defenseman Bryan Schmidt.

Stingrays defenseman Josh Godfrey netted the his fifth goal of the season at 8:07 of the second period going coast-to-coast up the left wing to beat Gladiators goaltender Billy Sauer under the left arm. Defenseman Johann Kroll received the lone assist.

Scherer made it a 3-1 Stingrays lead with an unassisted tally at 6:04 of the final frame. Gladiators forward Danick Paquette pulled the game within one on the power play at 9:57 from Krug and Forney. Scherer put the game out of reach with his second of the night on the power play at 11:48 from defenseman Dylan Yeo and Kashirsky.

Stingrays goaltender Jared DeMichiel earned the win stopping 28 of 30 Gladiators shots. Sauer suffered the loss pushing away 36 of 40 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays went 1-for-9 on the power play while the Gladiators went 2-for-6.

Join the Stingrays tomorrow, Saturday, December 4 at 7:05 p.m. for the 12th Annual Teddy Bear Toss with Debi's Kids as they square off against the Greenville Road Warriors at the North Charleston Coliseum. Bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game and throw it on the ice after the Stingrays score their first goal. The Center for Birds of Prey will be giving a live demonstration during the second intermission!
