December 3, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release

CINCINNATI, OH - The Florida Everblades (14-9-0) collected their fifth straight win with a gutsy, hard-fought 4-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones (8-7-6) on Friday night at U.S. Bank Arena behind a pair of goals by Mike McKenzie and 33 saves by Bobby Goepfert.

A back-and-forth first period saw the Everblades battled from behind to carry a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Cyclones came out strong and took an early lead in the game tallying a goal just 2:18 into the frame. The goal, scored by Dustin Sproat, came just at the conclusion of Cincinnati's first power play.

The Everblades however responded midway through the period to even the score at 12:05. Evgeny Timkin worked hard to dig the puck out of the right corner and skate to the side of the net where his shot was stopped by Cyclones goaltender Marc Cheverie. The rebound however dropped to the right of the Cincinnati goaltender where Jared Staal poked the loose puck across the goal line for his second goal of the year.

Late in the opening frame, the Everblades took the lead when Francis Lemieux one-timed home a shot from the bottom of the right circle with just 1:03 remaining in the period. Lemieux's eighth goal of the year was set up by assists from Mitch Fadden, who extended his point scoring streak to six games, and Bobby Raymond.

In the second period the teams traded goals with the Everblades scoring first to open a 3-1 lead. Taking advantage of a 2-on-1 rush that saw Matt Beca feed a pass from the right circle across to McKenzie, who one-timed the puck past Cheverie at 1:43.

But the Cyclones answered back with relentless pressure through much of the second period, en-route to out-shooting the Everblades 18-5. Eventually Cincinnati cut the Everblades lead to one on Scott Reynolds' sixth goal of the year at 9:18 after putting a rebound off the post past Goepfert.

In the third period, the Everblades held off Cincinnati's pressure and eventually on their first power play opportunity of the game re-opened a two-goal lead on McKenzie's second of the night at 15:55. Beca began the play with a pass from the left half wall to Mathieu Roy at the left side of the net. From there, Roy rifled a pass across the top of the crease to McKenzie at the right post where he slammed home his eighth goal of the year.

Goepfert improved his record to 8-5-0 by holding down the fort and stopping all 11 third period Cincinnati shots on his way to his third straight win.

Cheverie saw his record fall to 7-3-3 after allowing the four goals on 24 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-of-1, while Cincinnati closed out the game 0-of-2.
