Boise, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (10-5-5) saw their five-game winning streak snapped as the Alaska Aces (11-7-1) earned a 3-0 shutout over the Steelheads before a crowd of 4,565 at Qwest Arena Friday night. Mike Zacharias started his ninth consecutive game in net for Idaho, and stopped 29 of 32 shots in losing in regulation for just the second time in 10 starts this season.

The scoreless tie was broken with 55 seconds remaining in the second period when Chad Anderson's point shot found its way through traffic, was tipped, and went by Zacharias to give Alaska a 1-0 lead, and the eventual game-winning tally.

Two insurance goals were scored in the third period; the first came from the right circle at 2:58 of the third when Ethan Cox rifled a puck into the top portion of the goal to beat Zacharias, who made several spectacular saves in the game despite the losing effort.

Alaska added a third goal at 17:40 of the third period when Jerad Stewart- a teammate of Zacharias at Minnesota State- fired a snap shot from the left circle that beat the Idaho netminder.

Zacharias stopped 29 of 32 pucks in the loss; he is 6-2-2 on the season. Adam Courchaine earned the 23-save shutout for the Aces; his second shutout of the season. He is 4-1-0 in net for Alaska.

Idaho and Alaska will play the rubber match Saturday night at Qwest Arena. The puck drops at 7:10 PM MST.
