Courchaine, Aces Blank Steelheads 3-0

Adam Courchaine made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Alaska Aces blanked the Idaho Steelheads 3-0 on Friday night at the Qwest Arena in Boise, ID. The win marked the fifth different road venue where the Aces have shutout their opponent this season. They have now blanked every Western Conference team they have travelled to play this season. Alaska improved to 11-7-1 on the year, and 4-3 on the road trip. The Aces and Steelheads will play the rubber match of their three-game week on Saturday night. The teams played scoreless into the final minute of the second period until Chad Anderson's shot from the right point deflected through traffic and into the net to give the Aces a 1-0 lead at 19:04. The Aces then added to their lead in the third as Ethan Cox made it 2-0 from the right circle at 2:58, and then Jerad Stewart stamped on the exclamation point at 17:40 with a turnaround goal from the left circle to make it 3-0. Courchaine and company held on for his second shutout, and the Aces league-leading fifth of the season.

Adam Courchaine (4-1-0) made 23 saves on 23 shots in the win. Mike Zacharias (6-2-2) suffered the loss, with 29 saves on 32 shots. The Aces power play went 0-4, while the Steelheads went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Steelheads 32-23 in the game.
