Glads Stunned by Rays, 4-2

DULUTH, GA - The Gwinnett Gladiators fell short against the South Carolina Stingrays, 4-2 Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

The Gladiators (12-6-4) took the lead with a power play goal at the 12:47 mark in the first period. During a four-on-three advantage Michael Forney found Tim Miller alone in front, and he got the puck across the slot to a wide open Matt Krug on the far post for an easy tap in to make it 1-0.

With only 24 seconds remaining in the first period the Stingrays tied the score at one with a goal from forward Justin Milo, who was released in camp by the Gladiators. This was his first professional goal.

Josh Godfrey gave the Stingrays their first lead of the night at the 8:07 mark in the second period. The Rays held their 2-1 lead through the end of the period.

An unassisted goal by forward Matt Scherer increased the Rays lead to two in the third.

The Glads Danick Paquette made a game of it halfway through he third period decreasing the deficit by one. Krug and Michael Forney had the assists, Forney's second of the night.

The Rays would strike again when Matt Scherer snuck one past netminder Billy Sauer, his second tally of the night for a 4-2 final.

The Gladiators skate at home on Sunday against the Greenville Road Warriors at 4:05 pm.
