Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho--The Idaho Steelheads announced that Mike Gabinet's rights have been traded to the South Carolina Stingrays for All-Star defenseman T.J. McElroy.

Having played 17 games for South Carolina this season and 65 last, McElroy, 25, scored 10 goals and 26 assists, and a total of 135 penalty minutes. The 6-0, 210-pound blueliner visited Boise last January as a member of the American Conference All-Star Team. Prior to joining South Carolina, McElroy played four years (2002-06) at St. Cloud State and collected 11 points (6g-5a) in 107 career matches for the Huskies. He spent the 2001-02 season with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. McElroy is expected to be in Idaho's lineup Friday night.

Steelheads Head Coach Derek Laxdal said, "T.J. is a strong, physical defenseman who I had a chance to watch in Iowa's camp this fall. I expect him to be a great addition to our team."

Defenseman Mike Gabinet spent the last two seasons with Idaho, but missed most of last year due to injury. He did not play for Idaho this year, but Idaho retained his ECHL rights.

In other notes: Captain Marty Flichel was placed on the 3-day IR, effective yesterday.

Tickets are available for Idaho's three-game series against the Phoenix RoadRunners beginning tonight at idahosteelheads.com using the print-at-home feature or at the Qwest Arena box office (331-TIXS).
