Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - Greg Rallo (2g, 1a) and Mark Bomersback (1g, 2a) each collected three points, while goaltender Steve Silverthorn made 22 saves in a 4-1 win over the visiting RoadRunners in front of 3,741 fans at Qwest Arena on Wednesday night.
The win snaps the Steelheads (8-8-7) three-game winless streak and moves them three points ahead of the RoadRunners (8-11-4) for fourth place in the West Division.
The home team registered the only goal in the first period when Bomersback converted off a two-on-one rush at the 14:53 mark. Lance Galbraith sent the puck up ice to Bomersback and with Rallo joining him in the offensive zone, the former Ferris State University connection hooked up on a give-and-go passing play with Bomersback eventually notching his 12th of the season.
Through one period the Steelheads mustered 21 shots, a season-high for a stanza, while the RoadRunners had just seven shots.
Just 30 seconds into the second period Rallo netted his 11th of the campaign to increase the Steelheads lead to 2-0. Galbraith and Bomersback set up the goal, as Rallo found himself wide open cruising through the slot and the second-year pro ripped one-timer past Cody Rudkowsky (31 saves).
Colin Sinclair padded the Steelheads lead 5:31 into the third period when he potted his first goal in his last 15 games, an even-strength tally and the second of his rookie season. Taggart Desmet and fellow rookie Mike Sullivan got the assists.
Rallo's second of the evening made it 4-0 with Bomersback and defenseman J.S. Adam picking up the helpers at the 9:55 mark.
Less than two minutes later RoadRunners' forward Justin Maiser cut the deficit to 4-1 , ending Silverthorn's bid for a shutout midway through the third period. Taking a feed from defenseman Brian Yandle at the side of Silverthorn's crease, Maiser flipped the puck home for his team-leading 11th marker. Mitch Carefoot recorded the second assist.
The final shots favored the Steelheads 35-21. The Steelheads went scoreless on their only power play opportunity and they held the RoadRunners in check on their four chances. The Steelheads one man advantage opportunity was a season low, as was their eight total penalty minutes.
The Steelheads and RoadRunners tangle again on Friday, December 14. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
