Devils Drop a Heartbreaker to the Royals, 3-2

Trenton Devils News Release

READING, PA (December 8, 2007) - Jay Pemberton set up two great goals for the Devils, netting his first multi-point night of the season, but Trenton was unable to hold on for the extra frame as Reading skated to a 3-2 victory. Charlie Kronschnabel's game-winner came with just 1:39 left in the third.

Trenton and Reading raced each other for the quick goal in the first frame, with the Royals' Ned Lukacevic scoring 1:50 into the game on the power play. The Devils would respond almost immediately, however, when Mark Pandolfo tallied his fourth goal of the season 16 seconds later.

Set up by a left wing pass from Stephen Wood, Pandolfo broke past PJ Atherton, tying up the Reading defender with a strong deke to the left side. Pandolfo then saw his shot go all the way past Terry Denike's left shoulder, scoring the equalizer before Lukacevic's goal was even announced. Jay Pemberton would pick up his first assist of the game on the goal.

The Devils would then take the lead with an Eric Castonguay wrister from the slot 15:55 into the first frame. Handling a feed from Matt Cohen, the young forward found himself alone in the middle of the Reading zone, and did not miss his opportunity, blasting the top right shelf with a bullet. Pemberton set up Cohen on the play, earning his eighth point of the season on the assist.

Dany Roussin would equalize the game 18:48 into the first, setting up the ensuing stalemate as neither side scored until Kronschnabel's at the end.

A stop-and-go second period gave way to a third period with a slew of Devils shots, but Denike was up to the challenge, stopping 36 of 38 chances en route to his third straight win. The netminder has turned his season completely around after being dropped from two different squads this season.

Dave Caruso took the hard-luck loss; the Trenton netminder saved 23 shots out of 26 opportunities.

The Trenton Devils head back out to the First Arena for their third straight road game against the Elmira Jackals. The puck drops Saturday, December 15th at 7:35pm. Tune into WTSR 91.3 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
