Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced today that defenseman Bryan Rodney has been named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for December 3rd - 9th. The 23-year old had four goals, including three on the power play, three assists and a plus-minus rating of +1 to help the Jackals go 3-0-1 and stay atop the North Division.

Rodney becomes the team's third player to be recognized by the league with a weekly honor during the 2007-08 season. Brett Pilkington picked up Player of the Week honors for the period of November 19th - 25th. A week earlier, it was Dan LaCosta being named the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week.

After registering an assist in a 5-4 shootout win against Trenton on Dec. 5, the London, Ontario native had his first multiple-goal game when he scored twice in a 5-4 shootout win at Cincinnati on Dec. 8. He recorded his second two-goal game and added two assists for a career-high four points in a 5-1 win at Wheeling on Dec. 9.

The 6-foot-1 and 210-pound Rodney leads ECHL defenseman with 18 points in 21 games while his six goals tie him for third among blueliners. He began the season with Columbia and had 11 points (2g-9a) in 17 games before being acquired by Elmira.

In his third season in the ECHL, Rodney has 75 points (14g-61a) and 83 penalty minutes in 125 regular season games with the Charlotte Checkers, Columbia Inferno and Elmira while registering an assist in three Kelly Cup Playoff games with Charlotte. He played in the American Hockey League as a rookie and had three points (1g-2a) in eight games with Hartford.

Rodney played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League where he had 234 points (47g-187a) and 224 penalty minutes in 311 regular season games and 25 points (7g-18a) and 48 penalty minutes in 38 playoff games with Ottawa, Kingston and London. He was a part of the Memorial Cup championship club in his hometown while skating with the London Knights in 2004-05.

On behalf of Bryan Rodney, a case of pucks will be donated to an Elmira area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 18,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
