Stockton Thunder News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Josh Soares tallied a career-high tying four assists as the Alaska Aces scored four unanswered goals to send the Stockton Thunder (9-12-2, 20 points) to a 5-2 loss to Alaska, before 3,519 at Sullivan Arena on Tuesday.

Alaska took a 2-1 lead through one period with a strange twist to the Thunder goaltending duties early in the game. Goaltender Glenn Fisher, who started the game despite taking a shot near the collarbone in warm-ups, exited the contest just 1:06 into the game. Tim Boron replaced Fisher and made two key stops before veteran Kimbi Daniels opened the scoring at the 8:11 mark, giving Alaska 1-0 lead with his ninth goal of the year.

Daniels finished a pass to the left wall by Josh Soares, juking around a defender and burying a backhander past Boron's blocker.

Thunder leading scorer Jacob Micflikier scored his seventh goal of the season at the 10:53 mark on the power-play, knotting the game at 1-1. Micflikier followed up his own rebound after a point-blank save by Alaska goaltender Derek Gustafson, jamming in the loose puck under Gustafson's right pad.

Francois-Pierre Guenette scored a power-play goal with 4:33 left in the period to put Alaska up 2-1, unleashing a wrist shot from the left half-boards that deflected off traffic and under the crossbar.

Alaska erupted with a three-goal second period to expand its lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes. Bo Cheesman began the spurt with his 10th goal of the season at the 1:25 mark, finishing a centering pass by Josh Soares in the deep slot for a power-play goal. Cam Keith buried a rebound at the 5:41 mark for Alaska's third power-play goal of the game after Boron denied Olivier Filion's bid from 10 feet out in the slot.

Daniels scored his second goal of the game with 7:35 elapsed to expand Alaska's lead to four, fluttering a shot that deflected off traffic from the slot and eluded a handcuffed Boron over his blocker side.

Stephane Goulet scored his first goal of the season at the 6:38 mark to help the Thunder climb to a 5-2 deficit, jamming in a rebound on the power-play after Gustafson stopped a bid by defenseman L.P. Lachance, who picked up his first point in a Thunder uniform with an assist.

NOTES: Before the game, right wing Ryan MacMurchy was placed on the three-day injured reserve list ... Derek Gustafson led Alaska with 30 saves, matching his season high ... Micflikier tallied his seventh multi-point game
