Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads cooled off the hottest team in the ECHL with an exciting 4-3 win over the San Diego Gulls at the Bank of America Centre Wednesday night. The win snapped a nine-game San Diego winning streak, and moved the Steelheads to within 4 points of the Pacific Division's first place Gulls.

Idaho's backup goaltender, Kaleb Christenson, saw his first action in relief of an injured Blair Allison who left the game 14:05 of the second period. Christenson earned the win in only his second career professional contest. His first professional appearance came earlier this season in the United Hockey League.

Idaho got on the board fast, when Scott Burt backhanded a pass to David Bararuk who got a one-timer past Gulls goalie Trevor Koenig, glove side at 1:36. The goal was Bararuk's third in as many games. The Gulls evened things up just four minutes later, when ECHL player of the month Mark Pederson fed Greg Barber who beat Allison. The power play tally was San Diego's 13th against Idaho this year.

Clayton Read gave the Gulls the lead at 11:32 of the middle frame when he caught Christensen out of position on a Samy Nasreddine pass through the goal crease. Less than a minute later, Idaho's Andrei Vasilyev knotted the game when he brought the puck in on the boards from outside the left circle and scored. The Steelheads earned a one-goal advantage for the second time in the game, when they capitalized on a three-minute man advantage. Former Gull Miguel Delisle smoked a one-timer up upper left over Koenig (upper left corner) to score his 13th goal of the year. Bararuk and Jeremy Mylymok each assisted on the tally. David Neale tied it once again at 18:13 with a shot that Christensen got his glove on, but couldn't hand on to.

The third period was scoreless until Bararuk scored the game winner, and his second of the night, on an improbable shot from behind the net. The puck ricocheted off a Gull defender and then off the back of Koenig's leg with just .7 seconds remaining on the clock.
