Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Ill. (February 4, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rookie defenseman Mike Hoffman has been reassigned from the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate – the Worcester IceCats – by the NHL's St. Louis Blues.

Hoffman – a 6-foot-5, 248-pound native of Scituate, Massachusetts – tallied his first professional points (two assists on January 3 in Toledo) with the Rivermen over five games from December 28 to January 4. The 23-year-old, who has played in nine games for the IceCats this season with 15 penalty minutes (PIM), was signed as a free agent by the Blues on December 19 and assigned to Worcester.

Hoffman played in just three games at the NCAA Division I University of Connecticut this season with two (2) PIM. Last year (2002-2003), after red shirting as a freshman, he collected 10 points (2g, 8a) in 28 games with 24 PIM.

The Rivermen open a five-game, nine-day road trip tonight in Atlantic City, as they face off against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Boardwalk Bullies. Game time is 6:00 p.m. CT at Boardwalk Hall. The Rivermen are a member of the ECHL – America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
