
San Diego's Pederson Named Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - San Diego left wing Mark Pederson is the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for January.
Pederson led the ECHL in January with 16 goals and five game-winning goals and tied for the league lead with 26 points in 16 games. San Diego went 13-2-1, including an ECHL season-high nine-game winning streak as well as an ECHL season-high 11-game home winning streak, during the month while moving into first place in the Pacific Division and the Western Conference.
Pederson, who had four two-goal games, eight multiple-point games and was
+7 during the month, scored a point in each of his 16 games (16g-10a) in
January extending his ECHL season-high scoring streak to 18 games. He has
scored 30 points (19g-11a) during the streak that began December 28.
Selected in the first round (15th overall) by Montreal in the 1986 National
Hockey League Entry Draft, Pederson ended January leading the ECHL in goals
with 30, power-play goals with 13 and shooting percentage with 26.1 percent
while ranking second in game-winning goals with six and 10th in scoring
with 51 points (30g-21a). Pederson had a nine-game goal streak (12g) from
December 28-January 17, tying the ECHL season high set by Florida's Keith
Anderson, who scored 11 goals in nine games from October 18-November 9.
In his second season with San Diego, Pederson was named "Outstanding
Forward" in the West Coast Hockey League in 2002-03 after leading the
league with eight game-winning goals and four hat tricks and ranking second
with 39 goals. Prior to San Diego, he played seven seasons in Europe from
1995-2002.
Pederson began his professional career in 1988-89 with Sherbrooke of the
American Hockey League scoring 81 points (43g-38a) in 75 regular season
games and 12 points (7g-5a) in six playoff games. In 1989-90, he finished
second in the AHL with a team-leading 53 goals and was fourth in the league
in scoring with a team-high 95 points in 72 regular season games scored 18
points (10g-8a) in 11 playoff games for Sherbrooke. He also appeared in
nine games with Montreal in the NHL scoring two points (0g-2a). He scored
23 points (8g-15a) in 47 games with Montreal and three points (2g-1a) in 12
games with Philadelphia in 1990-91 and scored 40 points (15g-25a) in 58
games with Philadelphia in 1991-92. He scored seven points (3g-4a) in 14
games with Philadelphia in 1992-93 and 10 points (7g-3a) in 27 games with
San Jose in 1992-93. He was second in the AHL with 52 goals and eighth in
the league in scoring with 97 points (52g-45a) in 62 regular season games
with Adirondack in 1993-94 while also appearing in two games with Detroit
in the NHL.
