'Gators spark comeback against 'Catters

Lafayette, LA (February 3, 2004) – The Texas Wildcatters traveled to Lafayette Tuesday night to face the Louisiana IceGators for their sixth meeting at the CajunDome. The Wildcatters jumped off to a 3-0 lead before the IceGators sparked a comeback and recorded five unanswered goals to defeat the Texas 5-3. Brian Passmore opened up the scoring for the Wildcatters at the 13:44 mark of the first period as he deflected a Warren Toews shot past Louisiana netminder Derek Gustafson. Ryan Fultz was also credited with an assist on Passmore's seventh goal of the season. One minute later, former IceGators forward Martin Masa tallied his sixth goal since joining the Wildcatters as Gustafson went for a poke check and Masa banged home his eighth of the year. Wildcatters netminder Davis Parley turned away all 17 shots he faced in the period, including a penalty shot attempt by Alex Materukhin.

Masa took advantage of a 5 on 3 power play as he tallied his second goal of the game at the 1:04 mark of the second period. Masa picked up an Aaron MacInnis rebound off the end boards and shot the puck past Gustafson. Rob Guinn was also credited with an assist to extend his point streak to three game and giving him 11 points (1g-10a) in his past 11 games. Louisiana bounced back two minutes later with a pair of power-play goals to cut the lead to one after two periods of play.

Louisiana came out strong in the third period as they picked up two goals in 42 seconds to take their first lead of the game. Ed McGrane netted his eighth of the year and Bobby Brown picked up his second of the game and 27th of the season for the IceGators It remained a one-goal game until the 15:19 mark of the final stanza as Armands Berzins picked up his ninth goal of the year for the IceGators. Parley suffered the loss as he ended the game with 48 saves. The Wildcatters played the game with 12 skaters due to injuries and a suspension.
