Idaho Steelheads News Release

Garett Bembridge posted a two-goal and one assist effort, leading the Steelheads (8-3-0) to a 4-3 victory over the Aces (6-3-2) on Saturday night, in front of a sellout crowd of 5,035 at Qwest Arena in Boise. The win allowed the Steelheads to move back into sole possession of first place in the West Division, two points ahead of the Aces.

The third period saw each team score twice, with the Aces clawing back from two-goal deficits on two different occasions. The visitors got two goals from defenseman Ryan Gaucher in the third, but Bembridge and Mike Stutzel countered with goals for the home team. With their goaltender pulled in the final minute and the Aces pressing, rookie goaltender Steve Silverthorn (3-1-0) made several key stops to keep the Steelheads in front.

The Steelheads scored the only two goals of the first period, both coming on the power play. With the markers, the team extended its streak to eight consecutive games with a man advantage goal. It also meant the Steelheads have scored multiple power play goals in five of the last seven contests.

Midway through the first, it was Bembridge from Stutzel and forward Marty Flichel at 9:19 of the period. It was only the Steelheads third, first period goal on home ice this season. Then center David Bararuk, who missed last night's game due to injury, notched his sixth of the year at 13:18 of the frame to give the home team a two-goal cushion. Forwards Brad Thompson and Justin Cox recorded the assists.

In the second period, Alaska registered the only goal, cutting the Steelheads lead to one. At 13:18, winger Chris Minard picked up a power play goal with forwards Alex Leavitt and Konstantin Zakharov drawing the assists. Minard found himself alone in front of and lifted the puck into the top shelf to make the game, 2-1.

Silverthorn finished with 21 stops, while Matt Underhill (3-3-1) took the loss for the Aces, making 21 saves of his own.

These two clubs won't meet again until mid March, when the Steelheads travel to Anchorage for a three-game set. The Steelheads return to the ice on Wednesday, November 16 as they embark on a three-game road trip against the Salmon Kings.
