San Diego Gulls News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego Gulls, who are set to play the Fresno Falcons Saturday, have announced that defenseman Tomas Slovak has been recalled to the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters. The Colorado Avalanche, San Diego's NHL affiliate, originally assigned Slovak to the Gulls in early October.
Slovak, 22, began training camp this season with Colorado and Lowell before being assigned to San Diego on Oct. 6. In eight games with the Gulls so far this season, he has recorded three assists and four penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 205-pounder from Kosice, Slovakia spent the majority of last season with Kosice HC in Slovakia and also appeared in one game for the AHL's Hershey Bears. In 33 games for Kosice HC, Slovak netted 14 points (3g, 11a) while amassing 42 penalty minutes.
In 147 professional games, Slovak has notched 48 points (14g, 34a) and 124 penalty minutes. In 43 career games in the AHL, he has registered 11 points (3g, 8a) and 18 penalty minutes.
Slovak, who played for Slovakia at the 2003 World Junior Championships, was originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with the Avalanche as a free agent in July 2003.
The Gulls return to action Saturday in Fresno, with game-time set for 7 p.m. from Save Mart Center. San Diego hosts the Phoenix Roadrunners Sunday at 5:05 p.m. It will be the first Kids Night and "Skate with the Gulls" will immediately follow the game.
