Wheeling Nailers News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Wheeling Nailers continued their best start in franchise history on Saturday night with a 4-2 win over long time rival the Johnstown Chiefs. Johnstown started the scoring early in the first period when Brandon Elliott beat Nailers goaltender Andy Franck for a 1-0 lead. That would be the last goal for the Chiefs until the third period. The Nailers evened the game on a Brendon Hodge goal from Jordan Cameron and Mike Doyle at 16:10 of the first. In the Second Period the Nailers added two more goals to take a 3-1 lead. Bo Cheesman netted his second of the year and Kurtis McLean scored his sixth of the early season at 4:52 of the second. In the third PAUL CAPONIGRI got the Chiefs within one goal at 12:50 but that would be the closet the Chiefs would get. One of the newest Nailers Eric Sonneberg got his second of the year on an empty net to seal the victory for the Nailers. The Nailers have won 7 of 9 and sit one point out of first place with 14 points. These same two teams will battle tomorrow afternoon in Wheeling at 3:00pm.
