
Six Former ECHL Players Compete For Team USA

PRINCETON, N.J. - There are six former ECHL players on the roster for the
2005 U.S. Men's National Select Team competing at the TUI Nations Cup
(formerly known as the Deutschland Cup) through Sunday (Nov. 13) in
Hannover and Mannheim, Germany. The players are goaltender Karl Goehring,
defensemen Justin Harney, Andy Hedlund and David Schneider and forwards
Aaron Fox and Ryan Kraft.
Team USA finished first in the tournament with a 3-1-0 record in 2004, but
following losses to Germany and Canada, Team USA is 0-2-0 and scheduled to
meet Switzerland on Saturday and Slovakia on Sunday.
In his first professional season in 2001-02, Goehring helped Dayton advance
to the Kelly Cup Finals going 9-5 with a 2.43 goals against average and a
.917 save percentage after he was 11-9-3 with a 2.24 goals against average
and a .920 save percentage in 23 regular season games. Harney began his
professional career in the ECHL in 2000-01 and had 20 points (7g-13a) in 34
games with Wheeling and 13 points (3g-10a) in 23 regular season games and
one assist in five Kelly Cup Playoff games with Charlotte and was chosen to
play in the ECHL All-Star Game. He returned to Charlotte in 2001-02 and had
42 points (6g-36a) in 55 regular season games while also playing three
Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Hedlund played two regular season games and six Kelly Cup Playoff games
with Trenton after completing his college season at Minnesota State
University Mankato in 2001-02, and he played 13 games with the Titans in
2002-03 scoring three points (1g-2a). Schneider had an assist and five
penalty minutes in two games with Trenton after completing his college
season at Princeton University in 2001-02, and he had 16 points (5g-11a) in
26 games with the Titans in 2002-03, earning a selection to the ECHL
All-Star Game. Fox had 26 points (10g-16a) in 34 games with Peoria in
2000-01 and returned to the ECHL in 2001-02 and had 55 points (25g-30a) in
71 games with Richmond.
Drafted in the eighth round (194th overall) by San Jose in the 1995 NHL
Entry Draft, Kraft began his professional career with Richmond in 1998-99
and tied for the team scoring lead with 64 points (28g-36a) in 63 regular
season games and led the Renegades to the Kelly Cup Finals, scoring a
team-leading 20 points (10g-10a) in 18 games. He returned to Richmond in
1999-2000 and scored 67 points (32g-35a) in 44 regular season games before
moving up to the American Hockey League.
