Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre played host to the third game of a three game series between the Victoria Salmon Kings and the Stockton Thunder tonight. The Thunder broke the ice in the 14th minute of the first period but the Salmon Kings came back to win 6-4.

Stockton opened the scoring on the powerplay at 13:56 in a mad scramble in front of Salmon Kings Goaltender Rob Muntain. Maris Ziedlins had the third or fourth whack at a bouncing puck in front of Victoria's net, finally putting it top shelf for the one nothing lead.

The Salmon Kings returned from the first intermission with some bounce in their step. Defenseman Steve Lingren opened the scoring for the Salmon Kings on the powerplay. Lingren received Jade Galbraith's offering on the right point, and let go his howitzer blowing it past Thunder Netminder Jeff Weber high over the blocker arm.

Victoria Forward Adam Taylor followed Lingren's lead 2:14 seconds later with his second goal in as many nights. Taylor took a loose puck from in front of Weber, and beat the goaltender high over the glove side to give the Salmon Kings a 2-1 lead.

Stockton Defenseman Likit Andersson tied the game at two with his first goal this season at 11:05. Victoria did not sit on their haunches though replying less than two minutes later. The Salmon Kings broke out of their zone on a three on two. The play looked to be broken up by the Thunder defense, but the puck was picked up in the left face-off circle by Mike Wirll who fed the puck across the ice to a streaking Lanny Gare, who beat Weber through the five hole.

1:02 later Victoria Defenseman Simon Mangos carried the puck into the Stockton zone and found Forward KC Timmons who notched his third goal of the season. Victoria's two goal lead did not last long though as the Thunder came right back at the Salmon Kings. Nathan Martz continues to score goals against Victoria, as he put his second goal of the season and second against Victoria, past Muntain to make the score 4-3 after a wild second period, which six goals were scored.

The Salmon Kings stretched their lead to 5-3 late in the third period when Lingren's second powerplay goal from the point beat Weber. Again Victoria's two goal lead diminished quickly when Andersson scored the Thunder's fourth goal, and his second of the night, as Stockton kept clawing their way back into the game. Victoria's Seth Leonard iced the game in the final minute when Adam Taylor, who receives the unselfish play of the night, broke in on Weber's empty cage and passed the puck across to Leonard for his second goal of the season.

The Salmon Kings defeated the Thunder in game three 6-4, and earned five of a possible six points against the first year Pacific Division team. Victoria out-shot the Thunder, for the second straight night, 43-40. The Salmon Kings finished the game two for six on the powerplay while Victoria's penalty killers held the Thunder five out of their six opportunities with the man advantage.

The Salmon Kings remain in Victoria to play the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday November 16th, Friday November 18th and Saturday November 19th.
