Everblades fall 3-1 to Gladiators

DULUTH, GA - The Florida Everblades (4-3-0) saw the Gwinnett Gladiators (5-1-1) sweep a weekend series with a 3-1 loss on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett used 40 saves from goaltender Sean Fields to help the Gladiators win their second straight game.

The Everblades opened the scoring when newcomer Kevin Bergin wristed a shot past Fields 8:39 into the game. The 1-0 lead stood until the final minutes of the first period when Gwinnett tied the game on a Troy Milam power play goal at 17:57. Gwinnett grabbed the lead for good with another late goal, this time in the second period when Chris Durno beat Everblades net-minder Craig Kowalski at 16:58. The Gladiators sealed the win with an empty net goal with 36 seconds remaining in the contest.

Kowalski suffered his second loss despite making 32 saves on the night, which knocked his record to 1-2-0. Fields remained perfect on the season stopping 40 of 41 Florida shots to raise his record to 5-0-0.

On the power play the Everblades saw their string of five straight games with a power play goal end after going 0-for-4 on the man advantage. Gwinnett closed out the night 1-for-3 on the power play.

The Everblades return to action on Friday & Saturday, November 18 & 19 when they host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
